Flashmix FMX50 powder/liquid mixer by Silverson was sold to a company in the UK for use in the water-based paint primer manufacturing process.
Initially, the company used a mixer in which the product mixing process took about 2 working days, since the process could take from 16 to 20 hours to obtain the desired product.
This extremely long mixing time was partly due to the fact that the mixing equipment was not suitable for this application, as well as the large batch sizes and volumes. The vessel used for this application had a capacity of 3000 liters. The percentage of titanium dioxide in the formulation was not very high, around 30%, so for Silverson's Flashmix this was not a problem. Titanium dioxide is currently added to the Flashmix hopper in 25 kg bags using a 'rip and tip' operation. The company can now disperse the required amount of titanium oxide into a product in about 3-4 hours, so it can now produce 4 batches in the time it used to take to make 1!
The Flashmix is currently working very well for this product, the company is considering using additional machines for other applications in the future.
