Silverson recently supplied mixers for two very different applications that use seaweed.

The first, the AX5 Pilot Scale mixer, which was described by a customer as "worth every penny", was purchased by a cosmetics company to produce small batches of skin care products. Seaweeds are used in skin care products because they reduce acne inflammation, improve skin tone, and have cleansing and detoxifying properties. An oil-in-water emulsion with a volume of up to 40 liters at a time with a viscosity of 1000-2000 cP is used to create a skin care product using the AX5 mixer.

The second application with the use of seaweed was the trial use of an experimental plant for the creation of fertilizer. One of the advantages of using seaweed in fertilizer is that it is based on phosphates, not nitrates, and is therefore better for the soil and helps maintain long-term soil health.

During the test, the vessel was first filled with water and seaweed was gradually added. The water and seaweed were mixed for about 5 minutes before starting the built-in mixer. The In-Line Mixer was tested using different working heads to determine which ones gave the best results. Also, this installation made it possible to solve one of the main problems faced by the customer - air bubbles on the surface of the vessel.
