The customer needed to embed an API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) in a polymer matrix – but ultimately wanted a powder. This usually means expensive cryogenic milling: dangerous to operate, resource-intensive and fraught with complications.

So the company rethought the process. By dividing the extruder barrel into two sections, it became possible to:

1. Melt and mix the API with the polymer, and then
2. Shock cool it directly in the extruder using a powerful chiller.

What is the result? - Continuous, one-step process:

✔ No risk of contamination
✔ No intermediate transportation or storage
✔ Ready-to-use powder at 15-20 °C, ideal for packaging
