One of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan purchased an FMX25 Flashmix Powder/Liquid Mixer to prepare a viscous syrup for heartburn and indigestion.
Previously, the company used traditional mixers, which gave unsatisfactory results - no matter how much the solution was mixed, they could not destroy the agglomerates formed in the mixture and a non-hydrated powder remained, which subsequently required filtration time to remove the agglomerates. The company wanted a much more uniformly mixed product that was batch-to-batch stable.
The company contacted the Silverson Machines representative in Pakistan and a test of the FMX25 powder/liquid mixer was arranged.
The powders being mixed were a combination of sweeteners, sugar substitutes, preservatives, 10% sodium alginate to thicken and emulsify the product.
During testing, the FMX25 handled powders and increasing viscosity well. With the Silverson mixer, the customer was able to achieve an agglomerate-free solution in a much shorter mixing time and was able to eliminate the filtration step. During the tests, stable results were achieved, and the company was very pleased with them.
They have now purchased an FMX25 Flashmix mixer for making heartburn and indigestion syrup in batches of 500 liters. They are also testing their other pharmaceutical syrups using FMX25 to see if they can improve the quality even further.
